First Day of Spring: Time to Get Outside and Explore!
The blush of redbuds and the song of Spring Peepers are nature’s way of letting us know warmer days are on the way. The first day of spring marks a season of new beginnings, and if you or your little ones are interested in taking an active role in exploring the natural world or helping biologists preserve its biodiversity, there are many ways to get involved!
ecoExplore (Experiences Promoting Learning Outdoors for Research and Education) allows budding naturalists (K-8) to contribute to active research and gain badges for sharing their observations.
March 1 – May 1, 2022 is botany season! For more information or locations to borrow an iPad, check out the North Carolina Arboretum website.
Catawba Land Conservancy is looking for volunteers to help improve the health of Charlotte ecosystems. There are opportunities ranging from invasive species removal to trail construction and more! Find more information here.
When it comes to conservation, every little bit counts. During spring migration, millions of birds pass through North Carolina skies between March 15 – May 30.
Did you know? By closing blinds before leaving your office and turning off exterior lights at night, you can help protect species of concern like the Wood Thrush. If you’re interested in learning more or getting involved, visit the North Carolina Audubon page.
