
![]() Norman Rockwell’s art often captured everyday moments – images that show the way life was during his time. Draw a picture that shows the way we are today. What are the things you do for fun? What are some activities you do together as a family? Celebrate these moments and draw your own picture for the American Life Today Art Contest. Entry form and rules can be downloaded or picked up at Discovery Place or Charlotte Nature Museum. All entries must be postmarked by March 1, 2008. A reception for participants will be held on April 27, 2008 at Discovery Place. All participants will receive a certificate of participation and entries will be exhibited in the Museum April 14 – April 30. Winners’ artwork will be displayed in the exhibition in The Tribute Gallery alongside Norman Rockwell’s 322 Saturday Evening Post covers. From Rosie the Riveter to Willie Gillis, Rockwell created iconic characters that reflected and represented a changing world during times of war. In one of Rockwell’s most famous paintings, Willie Gillis enjoys the USO’s special brand of comfort from USO volunteers. Since before World War II, the United Service Organizations or USO has been the bridge between the American public and the U.S. military. In times of peace and war, the USO consistently delivers comfort, support and recreational services to the military. Military personnel and family members visited USO centers more than 5.3 million times last year to receive services include free Internet access, libraries and reading rooms, housing assistance, family crisis counseling, support groups, game rooms and nursery facilities. Did you know that there is a USO center right here in Charlotte? In 2006, the USO of North Carolina opened an office at Charlotte-Douglass International Airport and serves over 1,000 military visitors per week. The USO is in need of PAPER PRODUCTS for their facility here in Charlotte. In support of the USO of North Carolina, Discovery Place will offer a FREE child’s admission with a paying adult for any visitor that brings in a paper product on President’s Day, February 18 ONLY.
