Science & Superheroes Contest North Carolina Science Festival

March 21, 2015, 6:00pm Spandex City Comics and Discovery Place

A North Carolina Science Festival event

Did you know that many superheroes in the comic book world derive their superpowers from science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)? Here are just a few examples:

• Tony Stark's Iron Man suit is completely technology-based.

• The Flash is able to exploit the principles of sub-atomic physics to vibrate through "solid" objects.

• Spider-Man uses biology and zoology to show us how a spider's physiology translates into a human being.

Create your own superhero with STEM-related powers to solve real world problems, and you could be a winner!

Discovery Place is teaming up with Spandex City Comics to bring you the 2015 Science & Superheroes Contest, open to students in grades K-8 in the Charlotte area. Invent a new superhero whose powers are based on STEM principles.

Submit your original drawing and written description by March 21, and you could be honored in special ceremony at Discovery Place on April 19.

Download official rules and an entry form.

Entries must be submitted to Spandex City Comics at 2914-A Mount Holly-Huntersville Road in Charlotte. All participants will receive a free comic book.
