Hours into my crazed, holiday shopping, I did the unthinkable: I quit. I was pooped. I was tired of struggling to find the perfect gift for the perfect people in my life and frankly my feet were screaming in pain after their third trip around the mall. I plopped down in one of the chairs and began to re-think my idea of what a gift should be. I wanted something that was easy, affordable, memorable…Something that was exciting…Something extraordinary. The word extraordinary brought to mind one thing: Discovery Place. I think of all the faces, young and old, that I see in the Museum and how what we do here at Discovery Place changes their idea of what science is. Why not share these experiences with the ones I care about? Why not give the gift of Membership? I thought of the many extraordinary encounters that I’ve had with our scientists, educators and amazing creatures and I do consider those encounters to be gift-worthy.
This year, I encourage you to expand your idea of what a gift is and what it should do. How about giving a series of experiences designed to inspire minds and ignite wonder all throughout the year?
Which experiences do you as a visitor, or Member, consider extraordinary and gift-worthy? If you could give one of your Discovery Place or Charlotte Nature Museum experiences as a gift—which would you choose? Would it be an encounter with one of our famous, sports-minded rats or would it be a day spent watching your toddler discover the world around them in KidsPlace?
I invite you to share your experiences and consider giving the gift of Membership to Discovery Place and Charlotte Nature Museum. Giving the gift of Membership is easy— with just a few clicks of the mouse, your gift Membership is already on its way to igniting wonder in everyone on your gift list.

Post a CommentI visited Discovery Place on Saturday July, 24, 2010.I am a retired Engineer and have visited Discovery Place several times in the last couple years. I was very dis-appointed in the new display. The lack of high tech items was very oblivous. The majority of displays appeared to be for a very young audience.
