Henrietta, the Museum’s 12-foot long, 85-pound Burmese python (Python molurus bivittatus), has found a new home. Many visitors remember her as the quiet yet impressive presence in the Rainforest, currently being upgraded during the renovation. Henrietta has permanently relocated to the Bronx Zoo in New York.
Native to Southeast Asia, Burmese Pythons can grow up to 30 feet in length and weigh up to 300 pounds! As a new member of the Bronx Zoo, Henrietta will help the staff educate their visitors about the dangers that invasive species can present to native populations of animals.
At Discovery Place for more than 10 years, Museum staff is happy that Henrietta has found a new home. The upgraded Rainforest is scheduled to open in June 2010.
