DISCOVERY PLACE EXTENDS HOURS DECEMBER 26-30

Museum will remain open one extra hour to accommodate crowds of visitors to Mummies of the World

December 20, 2011

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Discovery Place will extend its hours December 26-30 to accommodate holiday crowds anticipated at its must-see exhibition Mummies of the World, the largest collection of real mummies and related artifacts ever assembled. The exhibition, which has seen overwhelming demand, will offer last admission at 5:00 p.m. from December 26-30. Discovery Place and the exhibition will both remain open until 6:00 p.m. on those days.

The reverently-presented Mummies of the World offers guests a rare chance to experience both naturally and intentionally preserved mummies from around the globe, some dating as far back as 6,500 years, and reveals the importance of science in studying ancient life. Engaging interactive and multi-media exhibit components provide a window into the past and allow guests to further explore how recent technology has dramatically changed the way scientists study mummies.

“We are delighted that so many people are as intrigued by the compelling science involved in the study of mummies as we are,” said John Mackay, president and CEO of Discovery Place, Inc. “Discovery Place is taking every step we can to accommodate all of the visitors who wish to see the exhibition during this very busy holiday season by responding with extended hours.”

Mummies of the World is a timed-entry ticketed event. Advance reservations are highly recommended. Tickets can be purchased by calling (704) 372-6261 or online at discoveryplace.org. Admission to Mummies of the World is $24 for adults; $18 for children ages 2-13; and, $20 for students with ID and seniors ages 60+. All tickets include full-day admission to Discovery Place. Group and Member discounts are available. Children ages 12 and younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult while in Discovery Place.
