Volunteers Needed for Mummies of the World Exhibition at Discovery Place
August 01, 2011CHARLOTTE Discovery Place is now accepting applications for adult volunteers for the upcoming exhibition Mummies of the World, which makes its southern U.S. premiere at the Museum on November 11, 2011. Mummies of the World is the largest exhibition of real mummies and artifacts ever assembled, featuring an astounding collection of 150 specimens, including real human and animal mummies and related artifacts from South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Egypt.
Volunteers for Mummies of the World will have the chance to work closely with one of the most intriguing science exhibitions ever presented and to enhance the experience of guests who will visit from all over the country, said Ervin Gourdine, director of human resources for Discovery Place. Volunteer duties are diverse and schedules are flexible even for those with limited time availability.
Volunteer roles and responsibilities include:
Exhibition greeters: Welcome and direct visitors, answer general questions, take tickets, distribute and collect audio guide devices,
Team leaders: Schedule, supervise and support the volunteer team during the shift,
Exhibition interpreters: Perform brief demonstrations related to Mummies of the World and answer questions about the demonstrations and exhibition,
Gift shop assistants: Assist visitors with Mummies of the World merchandise while providing excellent customer service, help with stocking and straightening.
Volunteers for the Mummies of the World exhibition are needed from November 11, 2011 through April 8, 2012. Orientation and training will be provided and applicants do not need prior experience, but a minimum commitment of 45 volunteer hours over the duration of the exhibition is required. Volunteer benefits include complimentary admission to Discovery Place and Mummies of the World, Discovery Place Membership (80 volunteer hours minimum), and discounts at Discovery Places Community Café and Shop Science.
