April 12, 2011Cure the winter blues and catch spring fever at Discovery Place! Mystery, wonder and excitement are contagious as Museum visitors explore science through hands-on exhibitions and a full schedule of interactive live shows and programming. Explosive experiments, up-close animal encounters and special guided tours are just a few of the daily activities that will provide scientifically proven fun for guests of all ages. Plus, Museum-goers have a last chance to see RACE: Are We So Different? before the special exhibition closes on May 8.

Activity Descriptions:
A World Apart - Take a front row seat on the edge of the rainforest as our resident explorer takes you on a journey to learn about the animals and plants that call it home.
Animal Encounter - Get close to a cool critter and learn about its habitat.
Aquarium Guided Tour - Dive into an exploration of the worlds oceans and learn about our amazing underwater world. Approximately 20 minutes.
Big Fun - Join in the Big Fun and shake out the sillies. Encourages large-motor-skill development and is a great way to end a visit to KidScience.
Destination Rainforest Guided Tour - Join one of our guides to explore the rainforest and learn about the flora, fauna and the challenges this unique ecosystem faces.
Exploration Station - Little hands play with the big ideas of science with fun pop-in, self-guided activities.
Flying Cars and Food Pills - Join our time traveling quiz-master and answer questions about the past and future of technology. Youll be amazed at what the people of 1900, 1943, and 1999 predicted for the world of 2011!
Nose-to-Nose - Have an up-close experience and interact with the Museum’s animals.
Race To Discovery - Gather to hear the stories of great inventors, distinguished statesmen, and surprising breakthroughs.
Sub-Zero - Explore cold chemistry and see what happens at -320 degrees F.
The Skin You’re In - Get a close up look at the layers and colors that make up the largest organ of your body.
What’s Glowing On? - Explore the properties of cold light and experiment with things that glow and fluoresce in the dark.
Zapped! - Have a hair raising experience at this dazzling show all about electricity!
Its a STAMPede!
Stamp and stomp your way to a day of fun at Discovery Place during Spring Break! Visitors can collect stamps throughout the Museum by completing activities such as touching a sea creature, participating in the matching game in the RACE exhibition, or creating a shoe in Think It Up, to win a souvenir pencil from Shop Science, Discovery Places store for weird, wacky and wonderful gifts.
Finish the day with IMAX
The Charlotte Observer IMAX Dome Theatre features two giant, new films. Tornado Alley takes moviegoers into the heart of a tornado with Storm Chasers star Sean Casey behind the wheel of the famous Tornado Intercept Vehicle. Born To Be Wild transports viewers to the lush rainforests of Borneo and the savannahs of Kenya as a team of researchers fights to save orphaned elephants and orangutans. Note: There is an additional admission charge for IMAX.
Discovery Place is open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m until 4:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. Ticket pricing is: $12 for adults (14-59); $9 for children (2-13) and seniors (60+); and free for children younger than 2. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Museum or by calling 704-372-6261 x300. Group discounts and reservations are available.
