Discovery Place Extends “The Dark Knight: The IMAX® Experience” Through Nov. 1
New Saturday evening shows added beginning Sept. 27. Feature-film breaks Museum records.
September 25, 2008Great news for Batman fans and movie buffs! In response to the overwhelming popularity and record-breaking success at the Museum, Discovery Place is extending “The Dark Knight: The IMAX® Experience” schedule. “The Dark Knight” will run every Saturday evening at 6 p.m. from Sept. 27 — Nov. 1 in The Charlotte Observer IMAX® Dome Theatre.
Originally scheduled to play through today, Sept. 25, the blockbuster film shattered records at Discovery Place, earning a place as the highest-grossing feature-film to show at the Museum. With a record of nearly 40 sell-outs, “The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience” also became the highest-attended feature-film at the Museum with more than 30,000 visitors experiencing the thrilling adventure on the largest movie screen in the Carolinas.
The follow-up to the action hit “Batman Begins”, “The Dark Knight” reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. In the new film, Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker (Heath Ledger). The Joker thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.
“The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience” will run on Saturday, Sept. 27, Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25 and Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Tickets to “The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience” are $11 for ages 14-59, $9 for ages 2-13 and 60+ and are free for children younger than 2. Group and Member discounts also are available.
Discovery Place is located in uptown Charlotte at 301 N. Tryon Street.
