Spring in Sight? Only Charlotte Nature Museum's Groundhog Knows

Furry Forecaster Seeks Shadow at Creature Feature Event sponsored by Earth Fare Monday, Feb. 2, 3 p.m. — 5 p.m.

February 02, 2009

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Will it be six more weeks of winter or an early spring? Only Queen Charlotte, meteorologist and groundhog-in-residence, at Charlotte Nature Museum knows.

Charlotte Nature Museum will open to the public at 3 p.m. for Groundhog Day festivities. Queen Charlotte will perform the official Shadow Check at precisely 4:30 p.m. Guests also can enjoy activities including storytime, groundhog-themed arts ‘n’ crafts, light snacks and beverages courtesy of Earth Fare (while supplies last) and the chance to view Queen’s Charlotte’s annual weigh-in. Last year, she weighed-in at a large, rodent-appropriate seven pounds!

Creature Features, supported by The Guild of Discovery Place and Charlotte Nature Museum, are monthly special events and include crafts, puppet shows, storytelling and refreshments. Creature Features activities are free with Museum admission. Museum admission: $5 for ages two and older, free for those younger-than-two and Members. Parking is free.

Charlotte Nature Museum is located at 1658 Sterling Road. Hours are: Tuesday- Thursday 9 a.m. — 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. — 5 p.m.; Sunday noon — 5 p.m.; and closed on Monday.
